STATEMENT | SAFE Applauds Magnets Value Chain Support Act

Washington, DC—Responding to the introduction of “Magnets Value Chain Support Act” by U.S. Representatives John Moolenaar and Ro Khanna, Abigail Hunter, Executive Director of SAFE’s Center for Critical Mineral Strategy, gave the following statement:

“A permanent magnet supply chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and nearly every stage today sits in the hands of a strategic adversary,” said Abigail Hunter. “By extending tax incentives across the entire supply chain, Congress is recognizing that true resilience requires investment at every step. Combined with the domestic sourcing bonus, these provisions strengthen both America’s industrial competitiveness and its national security by creating demand for materials and products sourced from the United States and trusted allies.”

SAFE’s Center for Critical Minerals Strategy has been highly engaged in the dialogue around building and strengthening critical minerals supply chains with allies. The Center recently published an analysis of the House-proposed FY27 National Defense Authorization Act’s revised sourcing restrictions framework, examining how it could support the development of U.S.-owned production capacity for strategically important materials and outlining the steps needed to provide the certainty required for long-term investment decisions.
