On August 20, 2025, SAFE’s Coalition for Reimagined Mobility (ReMo) submitted comments in response to the Department of Transportation’s Notice and Request for Comment on the 2026 Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill.
In the comments, ReMo urges the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) to modernize U.S. surface transportation policy to meet the demands of a 21st-century economy. USDOT has a unique opportunity to ensure U.S. competitiveness, safety, and resilience by embedding digital technologies into the foundation of our transportation policies, regulatory frameworks, and program delivery. By exercising existing administrative authority, convening interagency partners, and updating guidance across modal agencies, USDOT can unlock long-term economic growth, strengthen national security, and deliver safer, more efficient mobility for people, businesses, and communities.
As competing models of physical infrastructure and digital integration emerge worldwide, the United States must lead with free-market principles, innovation, and democratic values. By advancing American ingenuity and resilience, USDOT can ensure the future of mobility reflects freedom, transparency and opportunity.
