PRESS RELEASE | SAFE Applauds U.S. Army’s Deals to Establish Domestic Critical Mineral Processing Facilities on Army Bases

Washington, DC—Responding to the U.S. Army’s announcement to lease land on its bases to four companies to design, finance, build, and operate critical mineral processing facilities, Abigail Hunter, Executive Director of SAFE’s Center for Critical Mineral Strategy, gave the following statement:

“Government support on land, power, and people can make critical minerals projects that would never have been realistic a few years ago competitive on American soil,” said Abigail Hunter. “We applaud the Army for using creative policy making with military lands to help the U.S. with an urgent supply chain vulnerability: minerals processing.”

The companies receiving conditional awards for long-term leases are Titan Mining Corporation, Energy X, Ioneer USA Corporation, and REalloys whose planned facilities will be in bases in Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, and Utah.

SAFE’s research and industry dialogue have consistently pointed to processing as a key chokepoint in addressing the United States’ supply chain vulnerabilities:
