SAFE Commends New Fuel Economy Standards As Catalyst For Electrification

Washington, D.C.—In response to the announcement on fuel economy standards by the Biden Administration, SAFE President and CEO Robbie Diamond made the following statement:

“From the 1973 Oil Crisis to the Colonial Pipeline outage, breaks in the petroleum supply chain have caused price spikes at the pump and harmed businesses and consumers. For almost 50 years, fuel economy standards have been America’s strongest defense against oil volatility, by reducing dependence and wringing out as much value as we can from the oil we do use.”

“As transportation goes connected and electric, these new standards will do more than protect Americans against oil price spikes. These standards will encourage automakers toward EVs, and help the U.S. compete with China for leadership in tomorrow’s connected and electric transportation.”
