POLITICO | Trump admin touts 27 mineral deals in bid to counter China

China unveiled new regulations to prevent “security risks in industrial and supply chains.” According to a release, Chinese agencies can “launch investigations and take countermeasures against foreign countries, regions or international organizations, as well as foreign organizations or individuals, that undermine China’s industrial and supply chain security.”

Abigail Hunter, executive director of the think tank SAFE’s Center for Critical Minerals Strategy, said the rules show why it’s critical for the U.S. not to rely on Beijing.

“All in all — this overreach and effort to maintain opacity and control (at home and internationally) further emphasizes why companies should not be relying on China for their critical minerals and mineral-intensive inputs,” she said.
