Energy: No Time for Half Measures

Yesterday’s see-no-evil, hear-no-evil strategy of using energy resources from countries with poor environmental standards, weak regulatory oversight and divergent interests and values is hypocritical.  Doing so while refusing to optimize our own domestic energy resources during the energy transition is self-defeating; so is refusing to embrace the coming shift away from fossil fuels as our primary source of transportation energy.  We must be willing to recognize that the Russian assault on the Ukraine requires a wartime level of mobilization on both oil production and transition to electrification so that this can be a moment not of national malaise, but of rejuvenation, writes SAFE Founder and CEO Robbie Diamond, and Carl Pope, former Executive Director of the Sierra Club, author, and founder of Inside Straight Strategies.
