Abigail Hunter, executive director of SAFE’s Center for Critical Minerals Strategy, said the administration’s approach will avoid jarring supplies of critical minerals coming into the U.S. that are critical for energy, manufacturing and defense.

“Our read on this announcement is that the administration really gets that we cannot go it alone, and that a singular sweeping action won’t solve the problem,” said Hunter. “By prioritizing negotiations and monitoring over immediate trade restrictions, this approach reduces the risk of supply disruptions and higher costs at a time when we can’t afford to make mistakes.”
