On Monday, October 6, SAFE’s Coalition for Reimagined Mobility submitted comments in response to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Department of Transportation and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The proposed rule will streamline and expand the use of low-altitude (≤400 feet) drone operations to aid agriculture operations, critical infrastructure inspections, aerial surveying, package delivery, flight testing, recreation, and more.
This NPRM represents a pivotal step forward for the United States in moving from waiver-based approvals toward a standardized, scalable framework that reflects many of the principles industry has long sought: performance-based outcomes, risk-tiered requirements, and a recognition that data services will be foundational to future airspace management.
ReMo commends the FAA for the scope and ambition of this NPRM and urges the agency to build on this strong foundation as it finalizes the rule.
