National security officials have warned that repealing the EV tax credit could undermine their efforts to power the nation’s fighter jets and missile systems without Chinese supplies.
“Defense industry demand alone is insufficient to drive the investment and production volumes necessary for resilient supply chains, representing less than 10 percent of domestic demand for critical minerals,” a group of 23 retired four-star generals and admirals wrote to lawmakers last week.
“Without Section 30D’s sourcing rules and the demand signal that comes with it, investment in U.S. mineral processing and manufacturing becomes uneconomical — undermining national reindustrialization, competitiveness, and defense preparedness,” they said.
