America is at the forefront of a critical transformation: building a robust domestic battery manufacturing industry. This isn’t just about driving innovation—it’s about energy security, economic resilience, and national independence.
The time is ripe for this transformation as North America currently relies on imports for 85% of its battery component needs – fulfilled primarily by China. China’s dominance of the global battery supply chain leaves North America vulnerable to supply chain disruptions, price fluctuations, and the manipulation of technology and grid infrastructure by foreign adversaries.
With battery needs surging, the US only currently producing a fraction of the cathode and anode materials required for future demand, and Chinese manufacturers attempting to take advantage of this opportunity, Congress must act to protect and expand domestic battery manufacturing. Without action, serious grid security concerns will arise, leaving our grid and battery infrastructure vulnerable to foreign interference. Reducing reliance on foreign supply chains strengthens our grid, ensures economic stability, and protects national security. It’s not just about batteries—it’s about strategic autonomy.
The path is clear, but the journey is far from over. We must continue to invest, innovate, and advocate. Tell Congress: Protect and expand domestic battery manufacturing to secure America’s energy future.
